I was toying with the idea of using nitrous but let me tell you the stuff scares the shit out of me. I’ve heard of lots of good and bad but these extreme examples makes my heart pound just by looking at it.

This is what happens when you get a nitrous backfire using a plastic intake manifold.

And this is what happens when you leave a filled nitrous bottle in the car on hot summer days.

I think I’d rather have my car survive. Unless it’s a purpose built race car I didn’t see the benefit.

Why would someone think using the plastic manifold with NOS is a good idea? They should’ve learned that even with a built engine, NOS causes Danger to Manifold. Shoulda watched The Fast and the Furious.

All modern kits have pressure relief valves to avoid the fate of that poor Mustang.

What about water/meth?

Kinja'd!!! Luc - The Acadian Oppo > PowderHound

Kinja'd!!!5

From my understanding water/meth doesn’t actually add HP, it cools inlet temps which could in theory make more power but on a non boosted car I doubt you would even notice.

On big turbo cars you bet it makes a huge difference.

I was talking more around a 50-75 shot on an NA car.

Where would someone find that info? I’m looking at the Nitrous Express site and can’t find that anywhere in the specs of the bottles.

Meh. There isn’t any significant mod you can make to your car that doesn’t have some kind of hazard associated with it. Do a shoddy job hooking up the nitrous + taking 0 precautions after the job is done = firey death for your car, and maybe you as well.

I have never looked in to it. Just occasionally saw the topic on NASIOC. So it's probably not worth it.

Most of these incidents happen due to poorly built out systems and/or ignoring the safeguards. Just like you always used to see people blow-torching the bottles, that has actually dismembered people.

You vent the tank outside the car via a blowdown tube. Methinks this guy left the bottle heater on.

It can be perfectly safe.

Just make sure you take all the steps to only spray when you want to.

1.) Dry or wet shot?

2.) How much?

3.) WOT switch/window switch/arming switch?

Is a blowdown tube the same as a purge line?

Kinja'd!!! crowmolly > Luc - The Acadian Oppo
08/07/2015 at 17:31

Kinja'd!!!2

No.

Blowdown tube, meant to dump the nitrous if the safety valve blows:

Kinja'd!!!

N2O purge, meant to get air out of the lines before spraying but also to look intimidating.

Gonna piggyback on your stock fuel lines and pump? Do you know if you have the capacity for that?

What vehicle?

I’d assume they would, seems like a no brainer. I checked NOS too, but only Zex mentions it anywhere.

From what I can see from the kit you don’t need to upgrade anything so yes piggyback the fuel system.

It looks like the bottle valve has a pressure relief valve built in but if you want to run the line out of the car you need a different fitting.

Good brand, and it looks complete, but I gotta ask-

Why not do exhaust mods and a tune first? Typically that’s where you want to go first.

Essentially for an education.

I’ve always been curious about the stuff but before I would go big HP on a built V8 I would want to use it before hand to better understand it.

Isn’t NOS illegal to have installed in your vehicle in Canada?

Kinja'd!!! Luc - The Acadian Oppo > CB
08/12/2015 at 09:42

Kinja'd!!!0

Not illegal to be installed in the car but illegal to run on the street.

How they would know whether or not you actually used it on the street in the event something happens is beyond me though.

I guess it’s a bit of a grey area. You are allowed to have but not to use it.

Kinja'd!!! CB > Luc - The Acadian Oppo
08/12/2015 at 11:59

No idea. If you have gauges labelled “NOS” and they needle is anything above zero, they might have some suspicion.
